The Lost Coast earns its name. A beautiful coastline, unmoored from the rest of the state, misplaced somewhere in coastal California. You do not pass through it on the way to anywhere. You go because you decided to.

The road is barely two lanes. The canopy closes overhead and turns with the cliffsides. The pavement is patched on top of patches. When the fog rolls in off the ocean like a white sheet, your headlights stop reaching, and the road becomes something you read one corner at a time.

Then it lets go. The trees open and the redwoods climb past anything your lights can find.
