944
For sale is a great example of a 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo finished in Guards Red. This car is completely sorted, and needs nothing. The chassis has 150,000 miles, and the refreshed motor has 143,000 original miles. This car has an extremely interesting history, which led to its complete refurbishment.
At some point in the car’s history, the stock motor was removed, and was replaced with a Volkswagen 1.9-liter turbo-diesel engine. I tracked down the previous owner who completed this swap, and his intention was to do something "different". Unfortunately, the stock motor was long-since sold off. Modifications required to install the VW powerplant were limited to a small section of the firewall, and removal of the fuel pump and ECU.
When I took ownership of the vehicle, I removed the VW motor, and repaired the firewall back to factory specifications, in the correct fashion. Without knowing, you would never be able to tell the modification and subsequent repair was ever completed. I then sourced a correct turbo motor out of a 1987 951. Prior to installing the engine, the oil pan was removed, and the crank and con-rod bearings were inspected. They were found to show extremely minimal signs of wear, proving the health of the motor. All seals and rubber wear items were then replaced, ensuring the motor is as fresh as possible.
The motor also received virtually all new ancillaries and hoses, all of which are listed below. Every vacuum hose, o-ring, and gasket was replaced with OE parts. Performance modifications included a brand new turbo built to k27/8 spec with a billet compressor wheel, making this a step beyond Turbo S spec. A 3-bar fuel pressure regulator was installed, along with an uprated fuel pump, a billet boost recirculation valve, and a manual boost controller installed in tandem with the factory cycling valve. Estimated power is around 320hp at the wheels.
